Coconut Chutney Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup grated fresh coconut (or dry coconut)
- 2-3 green chillies (depending on taste)
- 1 small piece of ginger (about 1 inch)
- 1 tbsp roasted chana dal (chickpea dal)
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
- A handful of fresh coriander leaves (optional)
For tempering (optional):
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- A few curry leaves
- A pinch of asafoetida
Instructions:
1. Blend the ingredients:
- In a blender, add grated coconut, green chillies, ginger, roasted chana dal and salt. If you are using coriander leaves, add them as well.
- Add a little water to help blend. Blend till you get a smooth or slightly thick consistency, as per your preference.
2. Adjust the consistency:
- Check the consistency of the chutney. If it is too thick, add some more water and mix again if needed. Taste and adjust salt or chilli as per your preference.

3. Prepare the Tadka (optional):
- In a small pan, heat oil over medium heat.
- Add the mustard seeds and let them crackle.
- Then, add the curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds until the aroma comes out.
4. Mix and serve:
- Pour the Tadka over the chutney and mix well.
- Serve immediately with dosa, idli or any snack of your choice.
