Ingredients:
4 medium-sized, ripe yet firm pears
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
A few strands of saffron (optional)
4-5 cloves (optional)

Instructions:
Wash and peel the pears. Remove the hard core from the center and cut them into thick chunks or wedges.
Combine the sugar and water in a heavy-bottomed pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and allow the sugar to dissolve completely to form a syrup.
Add the pear pieces to the syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring gently, for about 15–20 minutes, or until the pears become soft and translucent.
Skim off any foam that forms on the surface.
Add the lemon juice, cardamom powder, saffron, and cloves. Mix well.
Continue cooking over low heat until the syrup thickens to a "one-string" consistency (a single thread forms when tested) and the pears appear glossy.
Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
Transfer the preserve into clean glass jars for storage. Refrigerate to keep it fresh for an extended period.
