Ingredients:
2 cup poha
1/3 medium chopped onion
1/3 small potato finely chopped
1/2 tsp raai
1/2 tsp cumin
8-10 curry leaves
2-3 finely chopped green chillies
1 pinch asafoetida
1-2 tbsp peanuts
1/4 turmeric powder
1/2 sugar (optional)
1 tbsp grated coconut (optional)
salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1/2 cup coriander leaves for garnishing
Instructions:
1. First of all, take out the poha in a big bowl. Wash it well with water or pour 1-2 glasses of water over it. Drain the remaining water. Add salt and sugar to it, mix it well and keep it aside.
2. Take a pan and add 2 tbsp of oil to it and let it heat well. After that, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let it crackle well. After that, add a pinch of asafoetida, chopped green chilies, and curry leaves. After that, add chopped potatoes and onions and a pinch of salt and let it up.
3. After about 5 minutes, when the potatoes are cooked well, add turmeric powder to it and mix it well. Leave it for a minute.
4. After that add soaked poha and mix it well. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes. Add lemon juice and grated coconut. After that add coriander leaves and mix it well. Now turn off the gas. Your poha is ready to serve.
NOTES:
Do not soak the poha in too much water, this will make it soft. You can use a large sieve. The poha should be moist, not soft. You can use fine poha instead of thick poha. You can increase or decrease the amount of sugar according to your choice. Maharashtra's Batata Poha has a little sweetness while Gujarati Poha has more sugar.
If you are making poha for children, then you can also add chopped carrots, capsicum and green peas to it. Pomegranate seeds are also added to street style poha, you can also add lentils if you want. If you eat it with Ratlami Sev, then the taste of poha increases even more.
