Instruction
- Firstly, wash the moth beans (moth beans) thoroughly and boil them in 1/2 tsp turmeric powder or 2-3 cups of water. Boil it on medium flame for about 10-15 minutes, till it is cooked completely. Keep it aside. You can also cook moth beans in a pressure cooker for 2-3 whistles following the same method.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Then add asafoetida, curry leaves, ginger-garlic paste and green chillies. Fry them for 1-2 minutes. Now add finely chopped onions and fry till they turn golden. After this add chopped tomatoes and cook till the spices are well roasted.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and garam masala. Fry the spices for 2-3 minutes, till the oil starts separating from the spices.
- Now add boiled matki to the masala and add salt. Let it cook for 5-6 minutes so that the spices mix well in the matki. Add some water if needed. Now it is time to prepare the tari.
- Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a small pan. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala and add 1 cup of water and mix well. Boil this gravy for 5-7 minutes and keep it aside. Instead of normal water, you can also use boiled moth bean water. This gravy is poured over the misal.
- First of all, put matki misal in a serving bowl, then pour the tempered gravy on top. Now pour farsaan on it, then add chopped onion, coriander leaves and squeeze lemon.
- After this, serve it with hot pav. You can also serve fried green chillies with it.
Notes:
- Sprouted matki is used in misal, but you can also use moong, chana, rice, white peas or any sprouted lentils as per your choice.
- If you like spicy food, then you can increase the amount of red chili powder in the gravy. But keep in mind that too much spiciness should not spoil the taste.
- Apply a little ghee or butter on the pav and fry it on the pan, this enhances its taste even more.
- To make misal even more delicious, you can also add curd, sweet chutney or green chutney to it. This makes its taste even more unique.
