In such a situation, today we have brought for you Gujarati Dal Recipe | Gujarati Toor Dal Recipe | Khatti Meethi Dal Recipe | Gujarati Arhar Dal Recipe, which is made from Toor Dal. To give it a sweet and sour taste, the right amount of kokum, tomatoes and spices are used in it. To make it sweet, you can add jaggery or sugar to it. You can eat it with rice or roti. So, let's see how it is made. 


Ingredients


For pressure cooking:

- ½ cup Toor dal (soaked for 20 minutes)

- 1 tomato (finely chopped)

- 5 dried kokum 

- ¼ tsp turmeric powder

- ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder

- ½ tsp coriander powder

- ½ tsp cumin powder

- ¼ tsp garam masala

- 1 chilli (chopped)

- 1 tsp ginger paste

- 1 tsp salt

- 1 tsp jaggery/sugar

- 1 tsp oil

- 2 cups water

- 2 tsp peanuts


Other ingredients:

- 1½ cups water

- 2 tsp coriander (finely chopped)


For tempering:

- 1 tsp ghee

- 1 tsp mustard seeds

- ½ tsp cumin seeds

- ¼ tsp fenugreek seeds

- 1 inch cinnamon stick

- 2 dried 

- Red chilli/round boriya mirch

- A few curry leaves


Gujarati Khatti Mithi Toor Dal Recipe


Instructions


- Firstly, take ½ cup Toor dal in a cooker. Wash the dal with clean water or soak it for 20 minutes.

- Also add 1 finely chopped tomato, 5 dry kokum, ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp cumin powder and ¼ tsp garam masala.

- Next, add 1-2 chopped chilli, 1 tsp ginger paste, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp jaggery/sugar and 1 tsp oil. Add 2 cups of water and mix well.

- Pressure cook till 5 whistles or till the dal is cooked completely. Now blend the dal after the steam is released. Blend it till it becomes creamy and smooth.

- Add 1½ cups of water and peanuts. Mix well, adjusting the consistency as per the requirement. Boil it on gas for 5 minutes or till the flavours are absorbed well.

- Now, prepare the tempering by heating 1 tbsp of ghee. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds, ½ tsp cumin seeds, ¼ tsp fenugreek, 1 inch cinnamon stick, 2 dried red chillies/rounded boriya mirch and few curry leaves and let them crackle. Pour the tempering over the dal, add 2 tsp coriander and mix well.

- Finally, the Gujarati dal recipe tastes delicious when prepared with a slightly watery consistency. You can serve it with jeera rice, steamed rice, chapati.
