Ingredients:

4 large russet potatoes

cold water

2–3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Salt to taste


Potato French Fries at Home 



Instructions:

Peel the potatoes (if desired) and cut them into 1/4-inch-thick strips.

Soak the potato strips in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes (or up to a few hours). This removes excess starch and helps them become crispy.

Drain the potatoes and pat them completely dry with a kitchen towel.

Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large, heavy-bottomed pot to 325°F (165°C).

Fry the potatoes in batches for about 3–4 minutes until they are tender but not yet golden. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels. Let them cool for a few minutes.

Increase the oil temperature to 375°F (190°C).

Return the fries to the hot oil in batches, and fry for another 2–3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.

Remove and place on fresh paper towels. Sprinkle with salt immediately.


Tips:

Double frying is essential for crispy fries!

You can add garlic powder, paprika, or parsley for extra flavor.

Serve hot with ketchup, mayonnaise, or your favorite dipping sauce.
