3 cups of chocolate ice cream

⅔ cup full-cream milk

3 tablespoons chocolate syrup

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

For topping: Whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles

Instructions

Remove the ice cream from the freezer about 5 minutes before making this recipe so that it softens slightly.

First, pour the milk and chocolate syrup into a blender; blend on high speed for 2 seconds, then add the ice cream.

To create a thick milkshake, start on low speed and blend for 15–20 seconds on high speed. Do not over-blend, or it will become too thin.

Pour the milkshake into two glasses and top with whipped cream, chocolate sprinkles, and a little extra chocolate sauce. Serve immediately.

Tips for Making the Perfect Shake:

Using both chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup gives the shake a rich, creamy, and intense "double chocolate" flavor.

The traditional "diner-style" method for making a chocolate shake involves using vanilla ice cream combined with chocolate sauce; however, if you prefer the richer flavor of chocolate ice cream, you can make it even more delicious by adding vanilla extract.

If you prefer a thicker shake, add more ice cream. If you prefer a slightly thinner shake, add more milk.

The firmer (more frozen) the ice cream is, the better the shake will turn out—if the ice cream is too soft, the result will be more like "chocolate milk" rather than a proper shake.

To keep your milkshake cold for longer, place the glasses in the freezer about an hour before making the shake.

Shake Variations:

To make a Cocoa Shake: Add ¼ cup of lukewarm water, 6 tablespoons of cocoa powder, and 3 tablespoons of sugar to a blender, and blend on low speed.

To make a Vegan Shake: Use almond milk instead of regular milk, and use vegan vanilla ice cream instead of regular vanilla ice cream; additionally, do not use whipped cream.
