Instructions

Dissolve the coffee. If using instant coffee, mix the powder into 1/4 cup of boiling water and stir until completely dissolved. Place it in the fridge or freezer to cool down completely before use. (If using cold brew coffee, skip this step.)

Add to the blender. First, add the cocoa powder, followed by the cooled coffee, milk, and ice cream. Adding the dry ingredients first prevents them from sticking to the sides of the blender.

Blend. Blend on high speed for about 30 seconds, until smooth and creamy. Check the consistency—if needed, blend for additional 10-second intervals. Avoid over-blending, as this can make the shake too thin.

Adjust. Too thick? Add a little more milk. Too thin? Add another scoop of ice cream.

Serve immediately. Pour into a glass and top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of cocoa powder, chocolate shavings, or chocolate-covered espresso beans.

Tips and Variations

For a stronger chocolate flavor: Use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla, or add one tablespoon of chocolate syrup.

For a stronger coffee flavor: Use 1 tablespoon of instant coffee instead of 2 teaspoons, or use cold brew coffee exclusively in place of milk.

Dairy-Free: Use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk, along with dairy-free ice cream.

To make it even more decadent: Before pouring the shake into the glass, coat the inside of the glass with a layer of fudge sauce.

Here is your Chocolate Coffee Milkshake recipe! Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

It is recommended to use instant coffee rather than brewed coffee to ensure the flavor remains distinct—if you do use brewed coffee, it should be very strong.

Use unsweetened cocoa powder, as the ice cream already provides plenty of sweetness.

Do not over-blend—blending for too long causes the ice cream to melt, resulting in a thin shake rather than a thick one.

If you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor, you can use chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla ice cream.

Never use freshly brewed hot coffee—this will cause the ice cream to melt excessively. If you are starting with hot coffee, chill it in the freezer for 10–20 minutes beforehand.
